Prayer Assistance

Sometimes we need a little assistance, or help in praying.  We hope you find this page helpful.

~ Praying to the God Who is waiting for You to Speak with Him. ~

Spend time with the Lord God Who made you for the purpose of having you live with Him. Take time to be holy, for God commands, be "Holy as I am Holy." Exod. "Holy" means "set apart for God". -- So set time to be away from TV, and other distractions to spend time with God.

Make a regular and consistent date with God. Mark it on your calendar just like you would a luncheon date. If you work, you might want to take the latter half of your break out in your car, or a quiet spot reading God's Word. Or rise early in the morning, while the house is quiet, and spend time with the One who can calm your day. Or spend time with God before you sleep, sharing with Him your thoughts of the day and what is ahead, and asking for His refreshment, cleansing, and renewing of your mind in Him.

Just like any relationship, the more you are with that person, the more you pick up their habits and pattern of thinking. As you spend time with God, you will grow to be more like Him. Do not fear the change God will make in you.

Embrace Him, "Set your minds on things above. … for you "have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator." Col 3:2,10 Fix your eyes on Jesus and do not look at the waves in the water as Peter did. When Peter took his eyes of Jesus and looked at his circumstances, then did he fear and sink. Matt 14:22-36 "Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God." Heb 12:2

Remember that obedience is out of the will, not the emotion. Obedience is an active choice to follow and love God. (Those that love me obey my commands. Love is obedience to God.) Emotions change, God does not, His character does not change, His actions are forever faithful and true. That is how we are to be, too.

ACTS TIP

Adore, Confess, Thank, Supplicate. Thank I Praise

A Adore God. Bring to mind one character trait of God. Adore God for Who He is.

C Confess your sin before the Holy God. (Ps 51; 139; Romans 8) Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. Ps 139:23 Against you, you only, have I sinned and done what is evil in your sight, so that you are proved right when you speak and justified when you judge. Ps 51:4 If we claim we have not sinned, we make Him out to be a liar and His Word has no place in our lives. 1Jn 1:10
Be real, call it like it is, see it as God sees it, offensive to Him, repulsive, disgusting, vile, and the reason you are not close to God as He commands. Repent of it. Turn away from it in your mind and emotion. Choose consciously to never "go there" again. Find it repulsive, for God does.

T Thank God for forgiving you. Recite aloud God's Word and promise,

As far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us. Psalm 103:11-12
Godly sorrow brings repentance that leads to salvation and leaves no regret, but worldly sorrow brings death. 2Cor 7:10
Those whom I love I rebuke and discipline. So be earnest, and repent. Rev 3:19
"Come now, let us reason together," says the LORD . "Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red as crimson, they shall be like wool. Isa 1:18
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. 1Jn 1:9

S Supplication.

  1. Ask for God's wisdom in one area of your life. Open the Bible, read God's Word. Ask yourself, what does this say about God? His character, His standard? What does it say about me? My life? How should I change? What am I doing right? Reflect upon what you have read. Write down His guidance and its source (The Word, Holy Spirit illumination, another person, circumstance change…. ). Ask God to change you from within and enable you to do what you have learned for His purpose and glory alone.
  2. Pray for someone else's need specifically.
  3. Pray for God's will to be accomplished in your life.

T Thank God for what He has given to you, done through you and all that He will do since you have asked Him in faith.

I I will do this!!, personally, commitedly, continually, in an active relationship with my Savior.

P Praise God with all of your heart, body, mind and soul! Praise Him for He alone is sovereign, in control, and does Great things!! Praise Him in advance for accomplishing all the good you have asked earlier. Praise Him for doing it in His Way and in His time, which is perfect!!

Write down your prayer exchange on a note pad. Put the date on it.

Write down your prayers, for whom, and the results of each prayer and date. This will encourage you in knowing God is actively listening to you, and you do have an intimate relationship with the Living God!! Be specific in your prayer requests. Write specifically how God solved the situation. Learn His method and timing. Notice how you have changed in your attitudes and reactions to others as you grow in your relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ. Rejoice and tell others, for this is to the Father's glory!!

A brief overview to the prayer lesson is: There are three essential steps to a close conversation with the Living God in the fullness of the Trinity that we discussed. All of these answers are found in God's Word, the Bible.

  1. The first step to praying is knowing with Whom you are speaking, His Character.
  2. The second step to praying is knowing the vehicle through which you are praying. What is His will on how we supposed to come to God since we want to be sure He hears us? You can read - Lk 13:24 ; Jn 14:6; Hebrews 4:15, Matt 27:45-51; Mk 15:37-39; (Heb 9:11-12, 14-15, 24,27-28) ; (Hebrews 10:5-7,10,15-22) ; Jn 1:12-13 ; Jn 3:5-6; 14-18; Rom 8:15 ; Matt 12:50 ; Jn 10:29-30 ; Deut 3:16; Mt 26:28 ; Lk 5:20 ; Acts 10:43; Jn 5:24 ; Jn 10:28; Rom 6:23 ; Heb 9:15 ; 1Tim 2:5; Lk 10:22 ; Heb 10:19; Heb 4:16; Psalm 118:6,7 ;Heb 13:6 ; Jer 31:3 ; Matt11:28-30; Jer 29:11.
  3. The third step to praying is knowing how you are to be before the Holy God? What is your responsibility and the attitude of your heart to be? What is His Will that we are to agree with? How can we know His Will?
